31452 at Embsay (3) 20250131--034

31452 stands at Embsay station on the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway at the head of a short ballast train formed of three "Dogfish" and two "Grampus" wagons. Taken during a Northern Diesel Photo Charters event organised by Chris Gee.

31452 is owned by Eastern Rail Services (based at Great Yarmouth) and had been visiting the railway for a filming contract.

I initially had difficulty getting a sharp image from here, and at first thought the footbridge was vibrating - but it actually turned out the autofocus was still turned off on my camera, and I'd not realised because it's much quieter on this camera than on my old! There was, however, the risk of camera movement when someone moved around on the span itself (which has a wooden deck - at the top of the steps it's concrete), and you really needed to stand on the span if you wanted to lose the sign above the bottom of the steps from the corner of the image.

Manipulation notes: cab interior from a different frame (with a lower exposure) has replaced the original on this frame (which was slightly too bright). I've also cloned out some metalwork associated with the aforementioned sign from the bottom left-hand corner.

2-2-2025: Revised version uploaded, with the colour temperature of the loco marker lights reduced (they had been very orange!).
