37069 and 37422 Victorious power the final leg of the daily Norfolk RHTT, 3S01 09.22 Stowmarket DGL - Stowmarket DGL via Diss, Cromer (reverse), the Wensum Curve (reverse), Acle, Great Yarmouth (reverse), Reedham, Thetford, Ely and Bury St. Edmunds, past Soham. The train is approaching Mill Drove level crossing, and the modern footbridge in the background is at the new Soham station, still under construction. [Pole, 4/6 sections (~5.4m)]
I was looking for new locations for the RHTT, and this was the only stretch of line between Ely Dock Jn. and Haughley Jn. where the sun was still "on the nose". Google Street View suggested that the bushes between the road and railway were probably low enough that I'd be able to see over them using the pole. I nearly came here two days earlier, but I ended up working very close to home so it would have been a special trip; with clouds having built up and no guarantee I'd be able to fill up the car with petrol when I'd used up what I had left, I decided against it. However, on this day I was working only a few miles away in Newmarket and there was lots of sun forecast, so I decided to give it a go as it wasn't much of a detour on my way home (and I'd also managed to fill up the car).
By lunchtime some cloud had built up, and at 3pm there was wall-to-wall cloud. But the cloud maps indicated the thick cloud would blow over quite quickly and there was lots of blue sky behind, and that is what happened, although there was still some cloud about and I got neither the Freightliner twenty-five minutes in front of this nor the GBRf container train twenty-five minutes behind it in sun - but the clouds stayed away at the important moment... Unfortunately it was quite windy, with some unpredictable gusts, as well as calm spells or else I'd have extended the pole by another section in order to get greater separation between the train and the buildings in the background.
