WWII Semi-Sunken Air Raid Shelter, Nr The Broadway, RAF Attlebridge Airfield.

Another one of the ten or so World War Two Air Raid Shelters (not sure if they are constructed by Stanton Ironworks Co) constructed along the Braodway, the walls and entrance on this one have been constructed from several levels of poured concrete using wooden shuttering, the out lines can be seen very clearly. A set of concrete steps lead down into the interior, the roof is made up of single precast concrete arches spanning the walls. At the far end is an emergency escape hatch, the ladder has long gone, there would be enough room in here for around 50 or more Station Personnel. This Air Raid Shelter wass semi-sunken and covered with a layer of earth and turf helping with protection and concealment.
