Concrete Ears

The Sound Mirrors, or "Concrete Ears" were an experimental device built in the late 1920's to early 1930's and used to acoustically detect approaching aircraft. They were very effective, and a skilled operator could even identify the type of aircraft. The invention of RADAR meant they were never used in anger.
