Wilpena’s Mirage
Cradled by ancient mountain ranges on the edge of the desert, Wilpena Pound is the crowning jewel of the Flinders Ranges. Early amateur theories mistakenly suggested the Wilpena Pound was an ancient volcano and I could certainly see why this was the prevailing thought.
The Pound is popular for bushwalking and of all the places in the Flinders Ranges, this place was perhaps a highlight for me.
I took many photos and I could see why artists are drawn to it. I liked the lighting here and it reminded me of some of the early Australian impressionist paintings.
