It can be a bit intimidating asking a stranger on the street for permission to take a portrait, but this is exactly what I did on this occasion after a day in Newtown a few years ago. She was with her friend taking selfies next to a wall full of colourful but messy graffiti. After the usual minute of so of battling with my alter ego doing it’s best to convince me to walk away, I approached her to ask if she would like her picture taken. She kindly obliged and after after a few clicks we both really settled down and got the confidence to figure out some good shots that she and her friend would like with the light that we had left.
In this portrait, I elected a panoramic crop with a focus on the catchlight in her eye as I felt that the background was too distracting. The black and white conversion with a little grain applied seems to fit my mood lately so here is the result.
Have a great Sunday!
