#IEApplication

The activity I enjoy most is traveling. Therefore, it was not difficult at all to decide where I want to spend my semester abroad during my bachelor studies. Asia was the perfect place to visit many countries in a relatively short period of time. In fact, I had the chance to see over eight countries - all of them with different traditions and habits. With a huge group of students from multiple universities we traveled from Japan to Malaysia to Indonesia and so forth. There are different reasons why traveling inspires me. First of all, one gets to know various cultures and people. Secondly, every new country is an adventure as surprises and barriers are awaiting you.

Traveling helped me not only to grow personally but also to improve my appearance in the professional life. Being confronted with diverse backgrounds as well as living standards has turned myself into an open-minded person. In Bangkok, for instance, we lived in the middle of corrugated-iron huts, where poverty dominated. This was probably the most formative memory of my time in Asia. I got reminded of all my privileges with regard to my personal and professional life. The second benefit is that I have become more self-confident and mature during the time abroad. Despite the beautiful nature, living in another country does not automatically mean that you can enjoy the time right from the start. You rather have to accept the different lifestyle at first and, then, find your own way how to cope with it. Depending on the culture, this can be either a quick or a prolonged procedure. If you travel often, you will notice that it becomes much easier with the time.

Regarding my professional life, my passion for traveling particularly helped me to overcome linguistic barriers. Hence, engaging in discussions and solving complex tasks in a foreign language during internships or at university appear to be much easier for me. Getting to know this wide range of cultures also enabled me to be more successful in group works because you gain much more experience in how to treat people and how to motivate them. Thus, IE business school would be the perfect opportunity to further engage with students from all over the world and, thereby, to improve my personal and professional skills as I wish to work for an international company later on.
