Crabby Steve's Dance Barn

"Crabby Steve" Maksymyk built this Dance Barn near Komarno in 1947 after he came home from the war. Crabby also had a Barn near Teulon. There were live bands every Saturday night, dancing (incl Polkas), fighting, courting, canoodling and homebrew. Apparently his Barns "packed em in" on Saturdays in their heyday, especially with Ukrainians from nearby communities. Midnight dances starting (surprise) at midnight were held on long weekends.

An article says that Mounties eventually closed the place down in the 1980s because of fears of drunk driving on the highway. They did it by blockading the highway and confiscating liquor from cars going to dances. The barn collapsed in 2011 because the beam rotted.

The Manitoba Historical Society has designated it a "historical place" in Manitoba.
