Fire at 489 Furby
An early December fire at 11 pm on a cold night destroyed this apartment block and endangered its 12 residents, 6 of whom exited by themselves and 6 of whom were rescued from the 3rd floor by firefighters with ladders. The apartment building next door suffered some smoke and water damage whereas the little house on the left was somehow apparently unscathed.

This is the first of a new series to be included in the album Life in Hardscrabble Areas of Winnipeg. It will mostly contain pictures of character housing and notorious buildings in impoverished and often tough core neighourhoods of Winnipeg which formerly were prime neighbourhoods in earlier times.
