Trouble with computerized oven
If I look less than thrilled, it is because I tried to use my new computerized oven and had unsatisfactory results on my first try. The stovetop burners are standard units, and I used them last Thursday to cook some homemade green chile chicken soup. That worked out just fine. Saturday I paid my second visit to the nearest Kroger and got a nice piece of tilapia along with the other items. I decided to try some simple oven fried potatoes, then broil the fish. Easy, right?
I did not notice before that the oven is computerized. I could not figure out how to make the damn thing heat up the way I wanted. My plan was to bake the sliced potatoes that were lightly coated in olive oil and seasonings, reset the oven on broil, finish cooking the potatoes, and throw in the fish for a few minutes. I ended up overcooking the spuds but miraculously didn't burn the fish.
When my gadget-loving girlfriend Leslie Anne called me Christmas Eve, I told her about my misadventure. She suggested that I try to look up the oven online and download an operating manual. That is what I eventually did late Christmas afternoon and got a late start cooking my turkey and dressing.
