Southbound MetroRail train from Midtown
This is a Siemens Avanto S70 Light Rail Vehicle soundbound on Fannin coming from the underdeveloped Midtown area toward the Museum District. Right now, we only have one LRT line which runs from University of Houston Downtown campus on the north edge of downtown to a station 7.5 miles south. It connects our downtown to the Museum District, the Texas Medical Center and beyond.
The Red Line should be understood as a starter line, not a complete system. In 2012 there should be five more routes in operation in the inner city area and a bit beyond. I am a civic activist who helped write the 2007 Draft Environment Impact Statement for the University Line and participated in the route selection process.
