The Foxhole

Alone in their foxhole, two troopers from the 2nd Airborne company vigilantly watch the line. What was supposed to be a simple reconnaissance op had suddenly spiraled into a deadly firefight with separatists forces resulting in heavy casualties.

The battle had ended several hours ago and yet the troopers remained in their positions not saying a word to one another. Neither of them would dare take their eyes of the line for even a moment.

As the hours flew by and the sun began to set the uneasy silence had finally gotten to one of the troopers. He risked a quick glance over to his comrade "Do you think anyone else survived?" His answer was met with silence. "Should we fallback to base?" Again more silence.

The trooper was amazed by his comrade's unwavering focus and didn't know how he could continue to be so calm after such a catastrophic battle.

Well the answer was simple.

He wasn't calm, he was dead.
