Once upon a time commuters would buy an evening paper to read on the train home. The cry of "News and Standard!" could be heard in the streets of the City of London as commuters dashed to catch the 5.15 to somewhere called home. Most of the newspaper sellers had been there for years, it was very much a family business handed on from father to son. The best pitches were those outside the railway stations. They were highly-prized and jealously guarded by their dynasties. Behind the plastic sheet on a cold winter evening, illuminated by a calor gas lamp, is Harry. He took over from his Dad when he was 26. He was pushing 70 when I shot this in 1983. One of the last newspaper sellers in the City of London.
