Palais de Justice

"Cour du Mai of the Palais de la Cite, or Palais de Justice was entirely rethought and regularized in 1782-86 (style Louis XVI), taking on the form we see today, including the magnificent wrought-iron gateway. The Galerie Merciere was now rebuilt with an august Doric portico that had no pediment but was surmounted by a sizable attic, and a new grand staircase.

The lower lateral wings, dressed on their boulevard facades with the same Doric order as the portico, closed the courtyard on both its northern and southern sides, thereby rudely obscuring the Sainte-Chapelle's northern elevation."
