Built for defense, not for beauty

"The Bowyer Tower is one of the 21 towers which together form the Tower of London complex. The tower was built by Henry III who employed Henry de Riques and John of Gloucester as chief architects.

This tower is part of Henry III’s curtain wall around the fortress. It was built in 1238-41 and this ground floor room is the only original part. The rest was rebuilt in the 19th century. According to legend, George Duke of Clarence, brother of King Edward IV, was imprisoned here. This chamber contains a display about his mysterious execution."
