Balcony of a palace
"Palace Astuto di Fargione in Noto is one of the most sumptuous and splendid historical residences of south-eastern Sicily.
The balconies, enclosed by rounded bulging gratings, are surmounted by elegant semi-circular tympanums in the lower order, triangular in the upper one."
" The earthquake of 1693 totally destroyed the old town of Noto (it is now called Noto Antica). The current town was rebuilt 8 km (5 mi) north of it on Mount Alveria.
The new Noto became a masterpiece of 18th century Sicilian Baroque and is currently listed among UNESCO's World Heritage Sites. Many of the newer structures are built of local soft limestone, which assumes a honey hue under sunlight."
