The bell tower is there somewhere
Erice is a medieval walled town perched on top of Mt. San Giuliano. The locals call their town 'u Munti, the mountain.
It is often shrouded in mist, known as il velo di Venere (the veil of Venus). The cobbled streets are often slippery.
They were most probably paved in the late 19th century.
The grayish stone houses date mostly from the 14th-17th centuries.
The church is La Real Chiesa Matrice Insigne Collegiata, better known as Real Duomo or Duomo di Erice, 1314.
To the right of it, hidden by fog, is the campanile built circa 1315 as an Aragonese watch-tower by king Frederick III of Aragon. Only later it started being used as a bell-tower.
