Mullioned window of the Dome church
The only element that softens the austerity of the façade of the cathedral are skillfully carved stone window frames. Intricate lines of fine stone carving of the top part of each lancet window make unique tracery designs.
St. Mary's Cathedral (Estonian: Toomkirik, English: The Cathedral of Saint Mary the Virgin in Tallinn, also known as Dome Church). The cathedral got its present look mostly in the 15th century.
Originally established by Danes in the 13th century, it is the oldest church in Tallinn and mainland Estonia.
In 1330, the expansion of a single-nave to three-nave structure began. The prolonged reconstruction was completed only in the 30s of the 15th century, when the 29 meter nave corpus in the form of a basilica was completed.
