Toomkirik (St. Mary's Cathedral)
St. Mary's Cathedral (The Cathedral of Saint Mary the Virgin in Tallinn, also known as the Dome Church; Estonian: Toomkirik). The cathedral got its present look mostly in the 15th century.
"Originally established by Danes in the 13th century, it is the oldest church in Tallinn and mainland Estonia.
In 1330, the expansion of a single-nave to three-nave structure began. The prolonged reconstruction was completed only in the 30s of the 15th century, when the 29 meter nave corpus in the form of a basilica was completed.
In 1779, a new baroque spire was built in the western part of the nave.
The austere architecture of the church devoid of décor is typical for the Tallinn Gothic. The facades of the building, except the altar apse, have no divisions. It is a smooth plastered unadorned expanse of walls, pierced by rectangular or high lancet windows."
