St. Lucia

Zamora

13th century

The Church of Santa Lucia, of Romanesque origin although almost completely rebuilt in the 17th century, is the repository of pieces from the adjoining Museum of Zamora, located in the Palacio del Cordón. Of the original Romanesque temple, the north wall and its frustoconical corbels, the north half of the west gable and its slightly pointed portal remain.

It is a small building that has been reformed several times, the largest was in the 17th century, in which the temple was completely reformed. They demolished the original apse to make a new bigger one. Nothing remains of the south gate. The north side was left practically intact.

The plant has a single nave and a single header, previously, it had three naves. A highlight of the building is the belfry, which was also built in the reform of the 17th century.

It is perfectly preserved and thanks to that it is a great tourist attraction.
