Borden Trail Work Day 2

CSFS Volunteers traveled to the top of Rist Canyon North of Fort Collins on Wednesday, August 16 to help with trail building at the Borden Memorial Forest. It was a perfect Colorado day at 8k feet elevation, and the energetic group finished another long stretch on the CSU property by clearing away the vegetation in a fire line fashion using Pulaski's and MeLeod's. The Fort Collins District has been working on the 30 acre property for many years, and progress is being made to fulfill the late Tom Borden's vision of having the land used for environmental education.

As state forester for 25 years, Borden was the longest-running director of the Colorado State Forest Service, and was past president of the Society of American Foresters and National Association of State Foresters. He also was responsible for renewing interest in the Colorado Forestry Association in the early 1980s.
