This image of yet another one of Sunny's best buddies, was taken directly on my terrace. It is meant for the wonderful daisyok (Jeannie). When zooming in, the little glint in his eye can be better detected ;-)
.It turns out that Sunny, our favorite resident macho great tit, organized an uprising of sorts after Rosie, the dynamo blue tit, stole his bachelor pad from right under his beak back in the beginning of April. After he and his lovely wife Daisy grudgingly handed over the keys to his ultimate man cave and the future digs for the kids, he decided that he needed a male support system this past May.
So, while Rosie was busy adding more eggs each day to her super fluffy abode, Sunny got all the male great tit birds of the area to stop by and check up on her in his former luxury condo. Mr. Rosie was completely useless during this ordeal as he simply hung out with the boys instead of chasing them away.
Rosie got to take care of this as well while her hubby actually consorted with the sworn enemy and would spend all day on the tit bird feeder with the gang! The only ingredients missing here were the actual beers and a big flat screen for the game... I can now totally hear all the Flickr men applauding Mr. Rosie and Sunny!
Poor Rosie! As always, the female gets stuck with all of the dirty work ;-) Man, oh man!!! At this point, I think that the feud between Rosie and Sunny merits its own picture book series...
Needless to say, Mr. Rosie and Daisy aka Mrs. Sunny got along famously. Then again, Mr. Rosie is a real "tit bird's tit" and beloved by all. The only exception is his own wife as she would always bitch at him and chase him away from the feeder when she came out to get a snack whilst making sure no great tit took back the nest.
As it turns out, often the great tits will take over the nest of the blue tits, complete with the eggs. They will then add their own eggs to the batch and raise the blue tits as their own, rather like step-children. But, the actual blue tit parents will have been banished from the premises.
What happened on my terrace was basically the opposite as the blue tit power couple stole the nest box from the great tit couple, but before there were any eggs involved. Just to clarify this a little further, Rosie stole the nest box from Daisy and Sunny just as Daisy was starting to clean and prepare it for the nest building, long BEFORE laying any eggs...
DJ Daisy the Great Tit is part of the colorful entourage of the crested tit Maxine in the upcoming picture book series, "Flaushi the Buddha Jay." Sporting a fine gold necklace with her name on it and a baseball cap, she leads the chickadee rap in the first book.
The current series is based on my very special and completely wild Eurasian jay Flaushi and all of his friends on and around my enchanted terrace.
