The garbage collectors of Akuedo

Akuedo is a district of Abidjan and is the city's garbage dump. Many people live here from collecting and sorting garbage. In 2006, a toxic waste scandal occurred here. The Dutch-British Trafigura group illegally dumped 500 tonnes of toxic sludge here. People died and many still suffer from the aftermath.
