It seems unbelievable, but these colors are real. Blue ice is created when air bubbles are pushed out by pressure. Ice that contains air bubbles appears white. Water, the growth and shrinkage of the glacier and gravity ensure that ice caves are constantly changing. On my tour, the mountain guide showed us some smaller grottos that were accessible a few weeks ago, but the ice had since sunk so much that you could only get in by crawling. I hadn't seen ice caves as beautiful as those in the Morteratsch Glacier in Iceland for a long time...
