with the north wind in its fur

Horses with a height of less than 148 cm are commonly referred to as small horses or ponies. Icelandic horses are usually between 130 cm and 145 cm tall. However, due to their ability to carry heavy loads (the Icelandic horse has always been ridden by adults) and their character, they are still classified as horses. Fortunately, as there is only one breed of horse in Iceland and the Icelandic language has no word for pony, this discussion is unnecessary in Iceland.
