I have often read that Iceland's glacier lagoon Jökulsárlón does not freeze over. For the James Bond film „Die Another Day“, the connection to the sea was apparently cut off so that ice could form on which vehicles could also drive. But it all depends on the temperature and the duration of the cold period. When I visited the lagoon in January 2025, it had been preceded by a cold period lasting several weeks with short thaws. Almost the entire lagoon was frozen over, with the exception of the front area influenced by the tides. Directly at the border with the open water, the ice was thick enough to support the seals, each weighing 100 to 150 kg.
