The Skálfandafljót, which falls over Goðafoss (english: Waterfall of the Gods), is a glacial river that emerges in the northwest of Vatnajökull. On its way towards the North Atlantic it absorbs some headwater rivers. Since most of the precipitation in winter is bound as snow, the bluish glacial water predominates in Skálfandafljót, which gives the waterfall its intense color.
Most of the time I have a uniformly gray sky in this place, but on this late afternoon the setting sun actually briefly colored the clouds.
