Camouflage

Arctic foxes change the color of their fur according to the season. In summer the animals wear a brown-beige summer coat, in winter there are two different color versions - a white and a blue, sometimes even black variant). Since there is seldom a continuous blanket of snow for a long time in southern Iceland in winter, the black variant predominates there - the animals are simply better camouflaged on the lava floor than the white foxes. But, as you can see, there are also white specimens.
