The Three Cruise-Ship Graces at Horseshoe Bay, Bermuda
Taken at the eastern end of Horseshoe Bay, South Shore, Southampton Parish, Bermuda.
'Models' unknown
Not a 'candid' but certainly by chance. I was beach combing and these young women were taking photos of each other, two at a time, but as I passed by, they asked to me use their phones to take a photo of all three of them together. As I had my camera with me, I then asked them if I could also take a shot of them on my camera too, and, to my surprise, they happily agreed.
I think they said they were on a cruise-ship which had recently docked. This is a popular beach area for cruise-ship passengers because they can get bussed there direct from the quayside at the Bermuda Dockyard ('West End'), and it also has proper changing facilities and, occasionally, a life-guard.
I loved the contrast between them, their different sun-specs, their happy posing styles, the humorous friendship between them, and their spontaneity. I was also really pleased they didn't go for the now almost universal 'victory' gestures for this kind of group photo.
I didn't even ask their names, and I don't remember asking them if they were friends back at home, or whether they had made friends on their cruise. But I just wish I'd also asked them if I could do a set of shots of them instead of just this single picture. I think I was afraid of seeming leery. But they were cheerfully friendly as you can see, and looking back, I'm sure they'd have agreed. Why does one always think of such things afterwards when it's too late? I've never had a similar chance since, and doubt I'll get another similar chance.
