Brocken Spectre and Glory
Looking down into Cwm Cau from high up on the slopes below the summit of Cadair Idris. I like other frequent mountain goers are lucky enough to have observed these phenomenon on several occasions but they are always a special moment when they occur.
The Brocken spectre is the magnified shadow of the observer cast upon the surface of clouds or mist opposite the sun, sometimes this is accompanied by a halo, the "glory" as the sun interacts with the tiny water droplets in the mist and clouds. It takes it's name from Brocken, a peak in the Harz mountains in Germany.
