Creator's Studio

Earlier this year, I set out on a quest to start bringing more colour to my builds, specifically to the Mecha genre.

Being someone who primarily worked with white pieces, I thought this would be a really good challenge for me, because not only did I have to think about shaping, I had to start thinking about complimentary colours within a MOC and determining good colour placement. This is obviously nothing new for most AFOLs but it is something out of the ordinary in my work, so it means something to me.

I wanted to convey the idea of me painting on model kits and the MOCs themselves to look like they're not LEGO. Everything from the paints, to the runners/sprues, and model frame I wanted people to take a second look and question if it really is LEGO. Not that I have an issue with the look or what some call the "DNA" of LEGO, I just really like how far LEGO has come into their production value of parts when you can make something not look as it should.

If you look closely, I also tend to incorporate a fusion of System, Technic, Hero Factory (CCBS), and Bionicle because you can really portray a clean yet detailed look if you put the right parts together. I know I'm really speaking from the Mecha genre, but I really think LEGO and their designers should reconsider bringing back some discontinued items because they can work well with the System structure. They literally have the power to make whatever they want and to have the parts crossover well into any building system but that's another topic for another time. Anyways, I hope you enjoy this and if you have any questions or comments on this project, feel free to share your thoughts. Thanks!
