Acceptance

Many, many years ago, as a child, I sat down on the floor, beside my pet cat who was sleeping. I stroked its fur and talked to it for what seemed like hours. But then I started to realize, it hadn't moved since I sat down. I nudged it and tried to wake it up. But it still didn't move. My mother saw what was happening, and she too nudged the cat and nothing happened. Although she tried to hide it, from the corner of my eye I saw her face turn into a tragic expression, but she turned to me and smiled. "He is just so tired, let him sleep." And then she stood up and took my hand and we went out to the terrace. She told me to wait for the sunset because it would look beautiful as it sank in the western horizon. I didn't even notice that she went back inside the house. I just waited for the sunset and stared at the sun slowly sinking into the west.
