Knee arthroscopy
Knee Conditions that can be Treated by #Knee #Arthroscopy
Before having Arthroscopy of the knee you need to have a physical examination to determine your fitness for surgery. Pre-operative tests like blood counts and electrocardiogram, (ECG), can be part of the preparation.
The knee conditions #arthroscopy can be used to treat are:
❑ Removal or repair of torn meniscal cartilage
❑ Reconstruction of a torn anterior cruciate ligament
❑ Trimming of torn pieces of articular cartilage
❑ Removal of loose fragments of bone or cartilage
❑ Removal of inflamed synovial tissue
The surgeon closes incisions by stitches or steri-strips, (small band aids), and bandages. After 1 to 2 hours in the recovery room it is then necessary to be escorted home by a friend or relative.
The duration of the recovery is largely dependent on the extent of the arthroscopic intervention and the type of anesthetic used.
