Knee_Replacement_&_Knee_Arthroscopy

In the case of injury or disease of the knee, there are a number of treatments available.

Knee arthroscopy

is a form of minimally invasive surgery that helps to diagnose and treat many knee conditions.

The following will explain the role of knee arthroscopy and knee replacement in treating and improving the knee depending on the site of the injury and/or disease.

Condyles are the round prominences at the end of bones that usually meet other bones to create a joint formation. Due to the joints function of enabling movement condyles are coated in cartilage to reduce friction between the ends of bones where they meet. This cartilage is called articular cartilage. The two condyles of the femur are the lateral and the medial condyles. Both are cupped by the medial and lateral condyles of the tibia.

Knee Arthroscopy for Condyles: When the surface cartilage of a condyle is torn the shock-absorbing quality and the smoothness of the roll of the cartilage is compromised.

Knee Replacement for Condyles: Knee Replacement can be necessary when osteoarthritis deteriorates the articular cartilage of the femur and tibia condyles.
