Elixir (please read)
On 31st August 2025, this Belgian horse - called Elixir - completed a journey of 1450 km through Flanders. The journey ended in Vollezele, where the Museum of the Belgian Draft Horse is situated. Elixir was ridden by Hilse De Groote, whose grandfather founded this museum 25 years ago.
The journey of Elixir and Hilse had started on 16th April 2025, and on 20th April I happened to see and capture Elixir in the nearby farm "Hoeve Hangerijn"! It was only later that I heard of this special journey of Elixir. There was no fixed itinerary for the draft horse: Hilse and Elixir stopped for the night where there was food and a place to sleep for Elixir - and one of these places was our local farm.
Hilse not only wanted to celebrate the 25th anniversary of her grandfather's museum, she also wanted to show this beautiful farmer's horse to Belgian people. The pair of them rode to towns and cities - even Antwerp!
