The Front of 't Sashuis

This is the other side of the 16th-century 't Sashuis (the lockhouse), facing the two bridges that lead to the beguinage of Bruges. It was 'restored' in the 'neo-gothic' style by the famous architect Louis Delacenserie. In the late 19th century quite a lot of buildings in Bruges were 'restored' into this look. Delacenseries' restorations include the Chapel of the Holy Blood, the town hall, the belfry, the Gruuthusemuseum and several more of Bruges' most famous buildings! There are also buildings he designed completely like the post office in Bruges, the Central station of Antwerp and the city hall of Diksmuide.

To me Delacenserie is important because in 1892 he became the principal of the joint Academy and "nijverheidsschool" (now SNT Brugge) in Bruges, which I found out when I did some research into the school's history.
