Dangerous Beauty

All parts of the Common Ball Flower are poisonous. Fortunately, it is a bitter-tasting substance, globularin, that causes this so I hope not too many people try the leaves in salads. I certainly didn't. Anyway, I wouldn't dream of picking a protected flower.
