Canyonlands at Golden Hour
As we were frantically trying to find a place to catch the sunset, I accidentally took a wrong turn and got separated from my group (family). I had to find a spot to catch the sunset. This turned out to be the ideal spot. Everything was just so perfect. I especially liked the way that the light was kissing the edges of the canyons (and the way it illuminated the river running through the shot--with little reflective bits of light). What I remember most is going from frantic search for a spot to the sheer and utter calm of the vista. It's one of those places that gives one a sense not only of grandeur, but also of the sublime (that interesting mixture of awe and reverence). It was hard to get a sense of scale since everything is so massive and the view is so far-ranging. I have another shot with a Jeep down in the canyon and it is an ant-speck in size. Someday I want to explore down in the canyon, not just view it from above.
