Los Angeles Zoo - Los Angeles, California - Rafaela the Southern Black Howler Monkey was born at ABQ's BioPark Zoo in Albuquerque, New Mexico on 1/16/10 and moved to the Los Angeles Zoo on 10/16/13. She is the mother of Stella, born on 8/25/14, who lives with her in their exhibit in the Rainforest of the Americas.
Four days before this photo was taken, Rafaela lost her mate and Stella's father, Maglio, to lymphoma. Stella's hand can be seen grooming her mother.
