Motherhood Is Tiring

San Diego Zoo Safari Park - Escondido, California - Joanne the Sumatran tiger was born at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park on 10/5/10 to Delta and Utan. Delta continues to reside at the Safari Park. Utan passed away at the Safari Park on 7/6/12.

 

Joanne has given birth to two litters with her mate, Teddy. She gave birth to Suka (meaning "loved" in Malay), a male, on 9/14/15, but rejected him shortly after he was born, and thus he was hand-raised. She is currently raising three cubs - Cathy, Debbie and Nelson - who were born on 1/28/16.

 

In addition to her sister/littermate, Majel, Joanne has 8 other siblings:

 

(1) Sari, her sister, was born on 12/5/06 and lives at the Jackson Zoo in Jackson, Mississippi

 

(2) Kamala, her sister, was born on 12/5/06 and lives at San Antonio Zoo in San Antonio, Texas

 

(3) Rojo, her brother, was born on 12/5/06 and lives at the Topeka Zoo in Topeka, Kansas

 

(4) Damai, her sister, was born on 11/13/08 and lives at the National Zoo in Washington, DC

 

(5) Harimau Kayu, her brother, was born on 11/13/08 and lives at the Toronto Zoo in Toronto, Ontario, Canada

 

(6) Kucing, her brother, was born on 11/13/08 and lives at the Cameron Park Zoo in Waco, Texas

 

(7) Conrad, her brother, was born on 3/5/12 and lives at the Kansas City Zoo in Kansas City, Missouri

 

(8) Thomas, her brother, was born on 3/5/12 and lives at the Kansas City Zoo in Kansas City, Missouri
