Tiger Training Demonstration

Fresno Chaffee Zoo - Fresno, California - Mek Degong ("Mek" for short) the Malayan Tiger was born in the wild sometime around 1999 and was captured in August 2000 after apparently earning a reputation as a problem tiger with the locals in Malaysia. She moved to Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, Nebraska in November 2003. She lived at the San Diego Zoo in San Diego, California from February 2004 until she moved to her current home at the Fresno Chaffee Zoo on January 30, 2013. She is seen here during the daily "Tiger Talk".

 

Mek is the mother of 11 cubs (approximately 15% of the captive Malayan tigers in the United States). Her first 2 cubs were fathered by Awang Relak, who passed away on 4/27/07. Her last 9 cubs were fathered by Paka, who passed away on 4/5/14.

(3) Menderu was born on 4/29/08 and lives at the Charles Paddock Zoo in Atascadero, California

 

(4) Jin was born on 4/29/08 and lives at the Tulsa Zoo in Tulsa, Oklahoma

 

(5) Seri was born on 4/29/08 and lives at the El Paso Zoo in El Paso, Texas

 

(6) Connor was born on 4/1/11 and lives at the San Diego Zoo

 

(7) Christopher was born on 4/1/11 and lives at the Virginia Zoo in Norfolk, Virginia

 

(8) Cinta was born on 1/5/14 and lives at the San Diego Zoo

 

(9) Berani was born on 1/5/14 and lives at the San Diego Zoo

 

(10) Arya was born on 1/5/14 and lives at the Knoxville Zoo in Tennessee

 

(11) Batari was born on 1/5/14 and lives at the Exotic Feline Breeding Compound in Rosamond, California
