A tour of the bridge and the engine room
To explore the biggest ocean steamer ever built in the Netherlands, and to find out all there is to know about the glorious cruise years of this 228 meter long legend, we recommend the Rotterdam Complete Tour that will take you on an exciting journey from the upper deck right into the ship’s belly. Look across the monumental bow, watch the heavy windlasses, climb up the towering bridge, check out the chart room, the radio room and visit the original captain’s cabin.
With this tour you also get to visit the authentic rooms, provided these are available, and on to the old indoor swimming pool, the engine room with its mighty steam turbines and through narrow stairs to the quite impressive boiler room. Watch the colossal manoeuvring board, covered with handles and buttons. Find out where the boiler men and cabin boys used to sleep. And do not miss out on the short video at the Experience Centre, where you get to travel from Rotterdam to New York in just a few minutes. Kids can have their own Captain’s Passport and diploma.
