The term “Impressionism” was coined in 1874 by an art critic Louis Leroy of the Parisian Journal. He regarded the unfinished quality of Claude Monet’s “Sunrise” and labeled it “Impressionism”. He unwittingly christened one of the great movements in the history of art.
