M&C Sanitation Pendpac in snow

Cedar City, UT

12/27/16

On Christmas Eve Cedar City was hit with a major snowstorm, and 3 days afterwards you could still find snow everywhere. The day started out at 8 degrees and my first mission was to find John from M&C Sanitation. This past Summer I found John in the spare STS ex Bakersfield truck (www.youtube.com/watch?v=rq136k4jJ_A&t=21s). On this day, I found John in his everyday truck which is a 2009 diesel Autocar Pendpac. The Pendpac was great, it had a nice roar and there was plenty of smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe. The scenery was amazing too, certainly something you rarely see in Southern California.

I noticed several different aspects about collecting trash in the snow. The roads are incredibly slippery so you must drive slow with no abrupt turns. I also found out that it is incredibly hard to move dumpers because they can get frozen to the ground. The gates in front of dumpers can also freeze and the only way you might be able to open the gate is with a hammer. Finally, the trash in the dumpster that is touching the bottom and sides of the dumpster sticks to the dumpster and will not fall in the hopper.

If you pay close attention, you will see a brief clip of the Mosdell Sanitation Peterbilt Leach Rear Loader that Trashman242 filmed 10 years ago.

Thank you so much John, you are certainly a professional driver and M&C Sanitation is lucky to have you. I had a blast following you around in the snow and I hope you enjoy these pictures like you did the first set of pictures. You did a great job driving and operating the Pendpac in these tough weather conditions.
