Tiger Heron by Rich Lindie

Tiger Herons – another bird species containing a mammal name, for those of you who took part in one of our previous quizzes – belong to the genus Tigrisoma, which contains only three species and only occur in Central and South America. This one, the Bare-throated Tiger-heron, as is evident in this photo by Rich Lindie, is particularly easy to see in parts of its range like the Yucatan Peninsula, in Mexico, where this startled individual was photographed.
