As this is Horace’s first year in Cornwall he is more than keen to get up to speed with places of interest. So we loaded him into the car and set off for St Michael’s Mount.
Hoof was busy on this day wallpapering his lounge, don’t ask, so this was an ideal time to introduce Horace to those famous legends of Cornish folklore Denzil Penberthy and Slipalong Trevaskis, most of you will be familiar with this pair as they fill quite a few columns of celebrity publications.
However for any newcomers that may be unfamiliar with Denzil and Slipalong, plus some of the history of Cornwall you will probably find the following true information facinating.
From about 1193, I say loosely as the internet was a bit unreliable in those days until about 1473 just after the Wars of the Roses, the Mount had weathered many battles.
So from 1473 until this day Denzil and Slipalong have been in charge of security of the Mount and guess what, not a single attempt has been made to launch an attack on it, or even enter the waters of Mounts Bay.
This is largely due to the fact that Penberthy has this ability to drink anyone under the table, and this is the ultimate deterrent for any wannabe troublemaker.
Remember Napoleon who was exiled to the Island of St Helena in 1815 for being defeated at Waterloo. Well that was all set up and a big cover up, basically Denzil challenged Napoleon to a drinking contest in Marazion one Friday afternoon (like you do) well Napoleon was just a lightweight in drinking terms, and did not have the stomach to keep up with Denzil and in turn lost face, and quite a bit else and it all got a bit messy as you can imagine and the rest is history as they say.
Ask Denzil and Slipalong about retirement and they will hear nothing of it, as they feel it is their duty to protect the Mount into eternity.
Horace so enjoyed meeting this pair of legends and came away a very enlightened Pig.
As always thank you so much for viewing my photos and reading these true stories plus the comments you leave.🍺🍺🍺🐎🐷😎😂😂😂
