In this shot can be seen the Padstow lifeboat station which was built in 2006, this replaced the old station which had been located to the left of this building, which had housed a Tyne class boat, James Burrough.

 

The reason for the new station was to accommodate the new state of the art Tamar class all weather lifeboat which was named ‘Spirit Of Padstow’ at a very moving ceremony in Padstow harbour.

 

RNLI crew members are volunteers, and each time they go out they are putting their lives on the line, who will ever forget 19 December 1981 when the Penlee lifeboat ’Solaman Browne’ went to the aid of the MV Union Star in hurricane conditions, although the crew of the Penlee boat managed initially to rescue 4 people the weather deteriorated and all eight members of the lifeboat crew lost their lives, plus the eight people from the Union Star.

 

These life saving boats are all funded by monies raised by donations in one form or another throughout the country.
