She Took Her Own Picture 0538
My hardcover copy of "She Took Her Own Picture" arrived yesterday. It was an auspicious moment, I'd been procrastinating the purchase but had seen/read mentions of this project for about 2 months, at least... and the doorbell rang just as I'd been thinking about how the book should be arriving any day now. It was the delivery via Canada Post!
Since joining Flickr I have had the pleasure of viewing the works of several of the members of the FSPASG (Female Self-Portrait Artists' Support Group). It's a long story, but I basically stumbled onto a couple of the artists' photo-streams, and discovered a "motherlode" of quality photos and brilliant ideas. All by these women, and/or inspired, or connected by them. Through viewing all these multiple threads I've found a lot of other photos & artists whose work (and words) I've enjoyed - males and females. I think it's impressive that a such community can exist (internet), which usually manages to transcend borders and political restrictions.
KUDOS to those photographers and organizers who collaborated in the making & publishing of this book. I look forward to seeing the familiar names in it, and to exploring the ones who will be new to me! I'm hoping this is only the 1st volume of many more.
BUY THE BOOK.... or at least check it out:
