The Search;

Ive been looking for a scene like this for a few years now but was never lucky enough to find one that was good enough in my mind, till now.

I came across a photograph taken by a professional photographer of a similar scene a few years ago and I messaged him and asked if he would tell me where he took it as I just wanted it for me and the family. I knew it was here in Co. Wicklow somewhere. He very kindly responded but he gave me the wrong location. Not to be awkward in any way but he just wasnt familiar with the different woods here and there are many. And another thing. Dont every ask an Irish person for directions as you will end up finding where it definitely isnt and not where it is and dont talk to me about road signs either. We built the motorways all over the World but we didnt do the writin` stuff. What did we do here? We did the writing on the signs as well so you havent a hope! Signs on slip roads like " Go back your going the wrong way " dont help either especially if you are European or American and drive on the wrong side of the road anyway! Heaven help us! Now to get back to my adventures. I had an idea where it might be so I set off to look for it.

I spent 6 hours wandering with no luck but I didnt really mind as it a beautiful place anyway and I dont need an excuse.

I went back a few days later on a Sunday and they were doing a mountain biking event there which they often do. I enjoy watching them and we give each other space which is great.I asked if anyone knew where the place ones and one guy said he did but it wasnt there anymore as the forrestry commission [ Coilte ] had felled all the trees in that area about 2 weeks previous. So there you are! I just went for a long walk and forgot about it. Glad I found this one though.

Its a very old Sycamore and I just came across it by chance. I took lots of tripod shots but this was one of the original and it was hand held and I prefer it. Im going to try and do a series of these if I can.

I hope you are all doing well in these difficult times and I know its not easy. Do try to keep busy and occupy your mind. Photography is great as you can take photos of anything anywhere so isnt it a good time to learn some new stuff.

Mind yourselves and big distant distance hugs from me..

Pat.
