Climbing up the 0.5% grade at South End Trammel, manifest M69318 is only moments away from entering the Sandy Ridge Tunnel. The single digit AC44 was a nice leader, as most are slated for rebuild in the CM44 program.
The siding at Trammel is one many siding that have been removed along the former Clinchfield main in recent years. Coming in at 3,691ft, Trammel no longer served a practical purpose in today's world of longer and heavier trains. With all remnants of the siding gone except for the ballast and signals, it serves as just another sign of the ever changing landscape of the modern world of railroading.
